Krzysztof Urbaniak

He studied in Warsaw and in Stuttgart by Józef Serafin, Ludger Lohmann, Leszek Kędracki and Jörg Halubek. 2012 he received his doctoral degree in Kraków and 2016 his habilitation in Łódź. He won first prizes at the organ competition in Bremen (2010) in Pistoia (2009) as well as second prizes in Kitzbühel (2006) and in Opava (2004). Since 2016 he is Head of the Department of Organ and Sacred Music at the Music Academy in Łódź, where he also leads his own organ class. Since 2018 he is also Rector’s Representative for International Cooperation at the same institution. He also teaches at the Music Academy in Kraków. He is a popular teacher at organ master classes, especially on historic organs, and jury member of prestigious organ competitions (i.e. Schnitger competition in Alkmaar and Silbermann competition in Freiberg). His intense concert activities lead him to many countries of the world. He published several CD recordings in recent years 2013-2016 he was artist in residence of the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Hall in Łódź and since 2017 he is curator of both organs of that institution. 2013-2016 he was also organ expert of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. 2015 he published together with Martin Rost the complete edition of the rediscovered chorale variations of Daniel Magnus Gronau. At present he consults the restoration of the 1611-1633 organ in Olkusz. He is artistic director of the festival on the Andreas Hildebrandt organ from 1719 in Pasłęk.
