Władysław Szymański – organ
Władysław Szymański studied music at the Catholic University in Lublin between 1975 and 1978 and then from1978 to 1983 he continued his studies at the Academy of Music in Katowice. Since 1979 he has been an organist at St. Adalbert’s church in Mikołów and also a professor at the Academy of Music in Katowice since 1985. In 2001 in the Music Institute of the Catholic University in Lublin he defended his doctor’s thesis with honours written on the construction of historical organs in the Upper Silesia. As a solo organist he has given concerts home and abroad. Form 2008 till 2016 he had been the Head of the Vocal and Instrumental Music Department at The Academy of Music in Katowice. Since September 2016 Władysław Szymański has been the Rector at The Academy of Music in Katowice. Władysław Szymański is a composer too, the author of organ pieces, chamber and vocal music. In this field he has received prizes at composers’ competitions: in 1983 for Toccata for two pianos and in 1985 for the Hymn for the organ. His compositions have been performed at distinguished music centres He is the artistic director of famous an annual, international festival – The Mikołów Music Days.
