Gellert Ensemble

Gellert Ensemble

“A format that is desperately needed!” – states Ton Koopman when speaking about the work of the Gellert Ensemble. Since 2015, and under the musical direction of Andreas Mitschke and the management of kultur_nah these young baroque musicians from Central Germany have been performing on a regular basis in order to realize historical performance practice at the highest level and to inspire with their joy of playing. The core repertoire of the ensemble consists of works by Central German composers. It is the declared goal of the Gellert Ensemble to keep this rich cultural heritage alive at the highest level possible and to present it through recordings and performances. The focus in the near future will be on recordings and performances of works by Georg Philipp Telemann, Gottlob Harrer and Georg Anton Benda. For Reformation Day 2018, the ensemble was invited by St. Thomas Church in Leipzig to perform Messiah by George Frideric Handel. They performed a whole new edition which was published by Breitkopf & Härtel and edited by Malcolm Bruno. For 2022, the Gellert Ensemble has been invited to perform concerts at the German Choral Festival, the MDR Music Summer, the Lusatian Music Summer and for a concert tour to Gdańsk, Vilnius and Berlin.
