Schola Gregoriana Gedanensis

Schola Gregoriana Gedanensis

A group of Gregorian chorale enthusiasts, acting at the Saint James Church run by Capuchin monks. The aim of the work of the Schola is the discovery and practice of Gregorian chorale – a musical and cultural phenomenon, the oldest and most sublime song of Western Christianity. Hence the activities of the group include educational workshops, giving concerts, and performing chorale during liturgy. In its work on the chorale the Schola concentrates mainly on sources based in Gdansk. Since 2015 it has been conducting a process of reconstruction of the Gregorian chorale according to the widely used in the region of Pomerania around Gdansk in the 14th and 15th centuries rite of the Teutonic order – notula Dominorum Theutonicorum. In its work it uses the rich collections of the Saint Mary’s Library, kept by the Gdansk Library of the Polish Academy of Science, as well as the collections of the Diocese Library in Pelplin. The Schola Gregoriana Gedanensis regularly presents the results of its work to the Gdansk and Pomerania public in the form of concerts.
